Flashback to 1987, turn up the punk and put on a single earring - dangly, of course. Only then will you be ready to fully revisit one of my favorite movies of all time - The Lost Boys.
For me, it's all young boys on the cusp of manhood and dark desires full of sin. Who doesn't love that?
And there's ample mullet-spotting, too.
I lucked upon a rescreening of this classic tonight and am happy as a vamp in a blood bank. And what's hitting me the most is the fashion of that era.
God, the 80's knew how to make a statement. And in an ugly-turns-fabulously-sexy way! Guys sporting tight jeans, long hair and earrings made the girls go ga-ga... or half-vampire for them. Just looking at Keifer Sutherland epitomizing an 80's bad boy - and demonic blood sucker - leaves me dreamy eyed, because my god he was hot!!
And while my vote is to leave mullets as far in the past and outskirts of civilization as possible, there are elements of 80's fashion that I'm more than digging right now. And it's not the movie making me want to go shopping - I already own most of these things.
Hello, Wayfarers! They look as good on me today as on Jason Patric twenty years ago.
Military style jackets... even on grade school vamps, it's a pretty hot look.
Skinny jeans, not so new!
Granted, I haven't reached for any fingerless gloves in a while. And I'd rather not see any bit of the only scary thing in that movie - this guy:
Especially when he played the saxophone.

27 Holla Backs:
Yay for military-style jackets! Members Only can SUCK IT.
Also, hi.
Sigh.
I hope in 20 years, people are still swooning over vintage pictures of me.
Oh, I am soooo old! lol
OMG the saxophone dude....definately the scariest vampire movie ever
BULL! My husband and I watched this movie on DVD last night. (cue Twilight Zone theme) It beat out Trading Places and There's Something About Mary.
I love the Frog bothers. And I agree, the roided-out freak singing at the beach is nah-has-ty.
Favorite line: We trashed the one who looked like Twisted Sister.
I love me some Keifer Sutherland. Mmm boy.
I've actually never seen this movie...I'm horribly afraid of vampires. I might have to suck it up though (ha! pun intended) and give a watch. ;)
Keifer is rocking that mullet.
I rocked some skinny jeans without covering them up with boots for the first time since 1987 today. Just got some cute purple flats yesterday and felt pretty good about it all. I draw the line at penny rolling and big hair though.
Wow. Never even considered I'd find anyone with a mullet remotely attractive.
Never say never.
They all look very bi-curious to me.
OMG, that guy IS scary. And I don't want any part of him either.
I absolutely LOVE Th Lost Boys. Fang-tastic film!
:)
Loved lost boys too, an actual classic!
This is one of my wife's favorite movies, too.
Not being much of a fan of vampires, I just don't get into it.
I Still Believe is sooooo on my iPod. I also think I am very much like Grandpa. Cranky and crotchety but in a good way.
That was one of my fave movies back in the day too! I wonder if they have transfered it to DVD yet-Oh yeah, I <3 military jackets!
Wow, classic. My sisters and I used to watch it all the time. I think I even still have the cassette soundtrack from the movie... The guy on the sax.... creepy and unnecessary, lol!
I too have succumbed to the 80's resurgence. Picked up some black Wayfarers the other day. But I'll be passing on the mullet and skinny jeans...
Thou shalt not fall....
That was the greatest movie ever!
Such a good movie. Such good sunglasses. Such an 80's-tastic soundtrack.
I wonder what the equivalent is for kids growing up now. Twilight? I shudder at the thought.
SUCH a great movie!!!! Keiffer looks better now, no?
I was watching this last night too :)
I love fingerless gloves.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. Remember when Vampires used to be hot and not girly and gay? Those were the days.
I was thisclose to renting the follow up to the original Lost Boys just to see the two Coreys reunited on screen one last time in a non-reality tv situation. But then I thought I would save it for a special (read: DRUNK) occasion. And Jason Patrick - yum.
I loved this movie. And you did NOT keep your eighties fashion! So jealous!
I will vote for the wayfarers...I remember them well..and since we are in FL, I have seen more than one mullet this past week. Banish forever I say.
