Gay Pride, see clauses 1 through 218,652,978

For those who don't know, I love me some gay people. Not sure why the biased affection, but it's strong and undeniable. Granted, I'm not gay myself. Gay men and I share one thing above all else - we think girls are gross. That's not entirely true because I know women are beautiful and sexy and all that, I just don't want to sleep with them. But I don't care who does. What goes on in your bedroom is your business. How on earth could I form an opinion about you on that?

What's getting my goat lately is how hesitant we are to accept gay everything. Meaning we'll be "okay" with people being gay, but we don't want to actually see it. I hear it all the time, "I don't care if they want to sleep with each other but I can't handle seeing them kiss" or "I'm okay with homosexuals so long as they don't flaunt it."

Well flaunt this, you narrowminded pricks, acceptance doesn't come with conditions or exclusions  - it's all or nothing.

I know my name calling is misdirected, as you wonderful readers are not them. But this hot topic gets me heated up. To have been so deluded into thinking society had come so far, and then to see a man beaten over and over and, yep, over again simply for his sexual orientation... this breaks my heart. For every ounce of disapproval or reluctant acceptance, a glimmer of hate remains. Or that's how I see it.

Preachy part over, Funny to follow.

This resounding hesitation to fully accept homosexuality was mirrored recently in, of all things, a soap opera. Guiding Light featured a story line about two women who had the hots for each other. Olivia and Natalia - otherwise known as Otalia - flirted around a passionate love for each other, but never did more than hold hands or hug on television.

Not. A. Single. Kiss.

Areyoufuckingkiddingme, CBS?

Pussies

(pun intended)

To support my stance - and prove that my friends are damn funny - let me introduce you to Danielle. An avid fan of Guiding Light and the Otalia story line, Danielle made the following video that has become quite the internet sensation. And don't we just love those?

Ode to an Obsession, via YouTube. Laugh, my dearies, laugh. And yes, that's her real family. My application to be adopted by them is pending.

Honorable mention to Meditations in an Emergency's recent post on the death of Stephen Gately and the gay bashing that followed. Well done, Mysterg.

I'm with you - not gay, but don't have any problem with it whatsoever. I get angry at people who are so against it too. Makes me sick. And we had a lesbian love affair on my soap opera - All My Children - kissing, a wedding, whole bit. I was impressed. Though not turned on. Nice post :)

I see your point, Sass.

I watch Young & the Restless, and they recently had a gay (male) story line that was handled about the same way and has now since been dropped. I was shocked at the uproar it caused among fans. People who regularly watch a show full of adultery, murder, theft, and lies upset at the immorality of a gay relationship.

I can't agree more, Sass. I'm not gay but I've never understood why some people are (afraid?) unaccepting of homosexuals. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Oh, I could go on and on about this. I support my gay brothers and sisters and I am sick of the discrimination and double standards. Love is love.

I went to school with a guy who always bragged that, one day when he got older, he was going to dress up in 'gay clothes,' lure a gay man out into the carpark and beat the shit out of him. I never said anything but I couldn't understand what that would prove, even then. I have a few gay friends and I can't see the problem with it. You're right, it's all or nothing.

I really hear you. Not gay myself, but I have a multitude of gay friends whom I love and adore with all my heart. I work in theatre for heaven's sakes. It's become standard practice to "check" before deciding to pursue as a love interest. (Cause Lord knows I've done it, more than once...and it's just as embarrassing as the first time...) I find society's lack of compassion completely revolting. And the whole PDA thing? Guess what? I don't like watching anyone, gay, straight, bi, whatever, slobbering all over each other while I'm waiting to pay for my groceries. But I'm sure not going to get miffed over a little kiss or hand holding. Come on. You know, I recently saw an exhibit at the EMP in Seattle where Nicole Nichols (sp?) from Star Trek was talking about how they did the first interracial kiss. And it was simply because William Shatner had the balls to say "NO! We are DOING this kiss! This is important." That's what needs to happen here too. Someone just has to have the guts.
Sorry about that there...this gets me fired up too. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's intolerance. Which sounds hypocritical when I say it like that, but you know what I mean. Really that was just a long-winded way of saying I support you and that message.

I concur, Doctor Sass.

And you're right about CBS.

I say live and let live. I have gay friends and a couple of gay relatives and I do get annoyed at the homophobes!

That video is one of the FUNNIEST THINGS EVER. I love her talking to the dog. I LOOOVE her mom drinking a glass of wine...and her dad? HILARIOUS.

I also love me some gays. If I wasn't grossed out by girls (I know what you're saying) I'd become a lesbian in a heartbeat. :)

I don't get it. Doesn't everyone enjoy watching women kiss?

As a lesbian in the body of a man, I couldn't agree more. Great post Sass!

I heart you that much more. Did you know that in `76 the Supreme Court ruled that gov't can't tell people who they can and can't marry? Hmmmm . . . Interesting, right?

I have a gay sibling, main gay, and many a gay pal. WHY oh WHY with the homophobia? Like its going to "rub off". Grow up small minded aholes. Bravo post!

I can't watch the video here at work, but I couldn't agree with you more. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of PDA in general (straight or gay), but I certainly don't discriminate.

Right on! I'm completely with you on this one.

Abso-fucking-lutely agree with every word of this post (except for not being attracted to women. I love me some boobies!). Right-the-fuck on.

Sorry, I say 'fuck' a lot when I get riled up.

I figure that the only reason I'm not gay is because I don't know what to do with my own pecker half the time. What am I going to do with two of them?

We don't like anything remotely different from us. That's what my latest post is about too. We have gay family members so it is just a way of life around here.

Dear Daytime Soap Opera,

So let me get this straight you can deal with philandering, murdering, racketeering, lying, stealing, claiming other people's babies as your own, faking preganancies, but a gay story line is too tabboo? Hi, you are black.

Signed,

Kettle.

Also, awesome post and can I nominate Scotty and Kevin for the best gay couple storyline ever? They are on Brothers and Sisters are easily my favorite and best part of that show.
